Supporting Veterans, Military Personel and First Responders in Kelowna
You’ve spent your career showing up for others, often in the hardest moments, and often at a cost that few people see. Whether you serve or have served in the military, as a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, dispatcher, corrections officer, or in another frontline role, you carry a lot. At Your Wellness Counselling, I offer a respectful, judgment-free safe space where we can deconstruct all the things that are weighing you down.

Understanding the Weight You Carry
Serving others means facing things most people never will: danger, loss, human suffering, long shifts, and constant readiness. Over time, that can take a toll on your mind, body, and relationships, even if you’ve learned to keep going and keep quiet about it. The impact can show up in many ways:

-
Numbness, anger, guilt, sadness, or a sense of being disconnected from the people who matter most
-
Trouble sleeping, being constantly on edge, exhaustion, headaches, or tension that never fully lets go
-
Replaying difficult events, intrusive memories, difficulty concentrating, or a sense that no one could understand
-
Pulling away from loved ones, relying on alcohol or other things to cope, irritability at home, or feeling lost after leaving the uniform
These reactions are not signs of weakness. They are very human responses to carrying extraordinary responsibility. Reaching out for support takes the same courage you bring to your work.
Common Concerns We Can Work Through
Every story is different, and you don’t need to have it all figured out before you reach out. Some of the things I support people with include:
PTSD and Trauma
Lingering effects of critical incidents, combat, accidents, or repeated exposure to distressing events, including flashbacks, nightmares, and feeling constantly on guard.
Operational Stress and Moral Injury
The deep emotional weight of difficult decisions, things you saw or couldn’t prevent, or situations that clashed with your values.
Anxiety, Stress, and Burnout
Ongoing pressure, hypervigilance, and exhaustion that follow you home after a shift or deployment.
Grief and Loss
Losing colleagues, friends, or those you served, or grieving the life, identity, or purpose you once had.
Transition and Identity
The challenge of adjusting to civilian life, retirement, injury, or a medical release, and wondering who you are outside the role.
Relationship and Family Strain
Difficulty connecting, communicating, or feeling understood by partners, children, and loved ones after what you’ve been through.
You may see yourself in more than one of these, and that’s completely okay. Whatever you’re facing, you deserve support.
